Staging a Home In Winter

Are you putting your home on the market soon? If so, you’ll need to prepare it for showing. Getting a home ready to be seen by potential buyers is known as staging. If you’re staging a home in winter, you’ll need to take a few extra steps.

Basics

In general, staging requires a lot of deep cleaning. You’ll need to make sure your windows, floors and carpets are very clean. Bathrooms and kitchens must be absolutely spotless, and your light fixtures, faucets, and doorknobs should all be shiny. Pay attention to small details, such as baseboards and corners, and apply fresh paint or grout if needed.

Declutter

Decluttering is often one of the first pieces of advice people hear about staging. You’ll want to pack and store nick-nacs, photos, and personal belongings. That said, you don’t want to overdo it. Leave a few select pieces of art out, things that work well with your home and add a sense of warmth to the décor.

Make It Cozy

Little touches, such as area rugs and accent pillows can really make a home seem warm and inviting. Flameless candles are a great option here, as they offer the warm glow of a candle without strong scents, which could overwhelm some buyers. If you have a fireplace, light a fire, but be careful not to leave it unattended. Don’t skimp on the heat, either: it’s better for your home to be a few degrees hotter than normal than to have a chilly buyer. Offer hot Sell my Anchorage Home. What is my home worth?chocolate or apple cider, and make your bathroom look inviting with spa-worthy elements such as luxurious thick, towels.

Paths

Make sure your pathways are shoveled neatly, and take care to de-ice as needed. A buyer who has to trudge through snow or navigate a slippery walkway may not make it to the front door, much less through it.

Lighting

Both indoor and outdoor lighting can work to your advantage in winter. For daytime showings, let natural light in by opening all drapes and blinds. If you're showing your home after dark, turn on plenty of warm lights so your home doesn’t appear gloomy.

Show Summer

Show what your home looks like in summer by providing attractive photos of your home during warmer months.
